Rafael Nadal, Wife Maria Welcome Second Child — Baby Boy Named Miquel

Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal and his wife Maria have welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Miquel, in honour of Maria’s late father.

The baby was born on Thursday at the same clinic where the couple’s first son, Rafa Jr, was delivered. Nadal and Maria left the hospital on Saturday, 9 August, after receiving visits and congratulations from family and friends.

Miquel’s name carries special meaning, as Maria’s father — after whom he is named — passed away in April 2023 at the age of 63 following a long illness.

Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, married Maria Perelló on 19 October 2019 in Pollensa, Mallorca. The couple welcomed their first child, Rafa Jr, on 8 October 2022.

One of the couple’s recent public appearances with their elder son was during a tribute to Nadal at Roland Garros, where he was honoured with a plaque on the Philippe Chatrier Court alongside his record 14 French Open titles.

Meanwhile, German star Alexander Zverev, recovering from mental burnout after his early Wimbledon exit, visited Nadal’s Mallorca academy in late July for consultations and career advice. While he could not secure Nadal’s uncle Toni as his travelling coach, Zverev said he gained valuable insights from his discussions with Nadal, boosting his confidence ahead of the ATP Toronto Masters.
