Ritika Strikes Gold as India Wraps Up Asian U-22 Boxing Championships with 13 Medals
India’s U-22 boxing squad ended their campaign at the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok on Monday with a haul of 13 medals, while the U-19 team returned with 14 medals, including 3 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze.
Ritika bagged the lone gold of the day in the women’s 80+kg category, helping India secure an overall fourth-place finish in the U-22 category. The U-19 side, with their strong medal tally, finished overall runners-up in the tournament.
In the 80+kg final, Ritika displayed a perfect blend of patience and aggression to overcome Kazakhstan’s Assel Toktassyn, delivering sharp, telling punches that sealed India’s fourth gold of the event.
Earlier in the day, Yatri Patel had to settle for silver after going down to Uzbekistan’s Khumorabonu Mamajonova in the women’s 57kg final. Priya, fighting in the 60kg category, put up a spirited show but lost narrowly 2–3 to China’s Yu Tian.
Later, Neeraj was defeated by Shavkatjon Boltaev of Uzbekistan in the men’s 75kg final, while Ishan Kataria fell to Khalimjon Mamasoliev of Uzbekistan in the 90+kg summit clash. Both Indian pugilists took home silver medals.
