Rs.10 lakh should be provided as compensation to the family of Om Kumar, who died in the Tiruchendur temple stampede… Annamalai

Tamil Nadu BJP state president Annamalai has urged the state government to immediately provide a compensation of ₹10 lakh to the family of Om Kumar, a resident of Karaikudi, who tragically lost his life due to the crowd surge at the Tiruchendur Subramaniya Swamy Temple.

In a statement shared on his social media, Annamalai emphasized that the Tamil Nadu government must provide the necessary relief to the bereaved family. Additionally, he called for proper safety measures to be implemented at temples to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.

Addressing the letter that was reportedly written by Om Kumar’s wife, as mentioned by Minister Sekar Babu, Annamalai pointed out certain excerpts from the letter and questioned its authenticity. He remarked that the letter appeared to have been written under coercion, as it seemed to be a prerequisite for the family to receive the deceased’s body.

Furthermore, Annamalai highlighted the discrepancies between the contents of the letter and the statements given by Om Kumar’s family members during media interviews. He criticized the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of the situation, stating that their inefficiency was putting people’s lives at risk.

Quoting a Tamil proverb, “The king may escape punishment for his deeds, but divine justice will prevail,” Annamalai suggested that the incident was a consequence of government negligence and mismanagement.

He reiterated his demand for the state government to ensure that adequate safety precautions are put in place at temples and other crowded locations to prevent similar mishaps. Additionally, he urged the authorities to provide immediate compensation to Om Kumar’s family.
