‘Sabke Boss…’: Rajnath Criticises Trump’s Tariff Move, Says Some Are Unhappy With India’s Growth
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday indirectly criticised US President Donald Trump for imposing an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods, suggesting that some countries are uneasy with India’s rapid progress.
Speaking at an event in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, Rajnath Singh referred to the US administration as “sabke boss.”
“There are some people who are not pleased with the speed at which India is developing. They are not happy. ‘Sabke boss toh hum hain,’ so how can India grow so fast?” said Rajnath Singh.
He also pointed out that attempts are being made to portray Indian products as costlier compared to local goods in other countries, aiming to reduce India’s profit margins. However, he confidently asserted, “No power in the world can stop India from becoming a major global power.”
“Many are trying to make Indian-made products more expensive than those produced elsewhere so that the world won’t buy them. This effort is ongoing. But India is advancing so quickly that I say with full assurance, no power can stop India from emerging as a global powerhouse,” he added.
Regarding the defence sector, Rajnath Singh shared positive news, “You will be pleased to know that our defence exports have crossed Rs 24,000 crore. This shows India’s strength, the new India’s defence sector is growing, and exports are continuously rising.”
US President Donald Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on Indian imports effective August 7, along with an additional 25% penalty, citing India’s purchase of Russian oil. Trump also threatened further tariff increases and possible secondary sanctions if India continued trade with Russia. In a controversial statement, Trump described India’s economy as “dead.”
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together,” Trump reportedly remarked.
