Shock in Vellore: Roof Paint Peels Off Newly Inaugurated Bus Shelter Within 2 Days
A newly constructed bus shelter near Gudiyatham in Vellore district has become the center of controversy after the roof paint began peeling off just two days after its inauguration.
The shelter, located in the Chittoor Gate area under the Sevoor Panchayat, was constructed at a cost of ₹11 lakh under the MP Local Area Development Fund allocated by Vellore Member of Parliament, Mr. Kathir Anand.
Just two days ago, MP Kathir Anand had formally inaugurated the structure by cutting the ribbon amidst local officials, panchayat members, and residents. The event was celebrated as a fulfillment of long-standing public demand.
However, within 48 hours of the event, the paint on the roof of the bus shelter began to peel off and fall, raising serious concerns about the quality of construction. Videos have now emerged on social media showing workers hurriedly repainting the shelter at night, sparking criticism and public outrage.
Residents and social media users are questioning the credibility and accountability of public infrastructure projects, especially those built with taxpayer money. Many are asking whether proper quality inspections were carried out before the inauguration.
“If this is the condition of the structure within two days, what will happen during the monsoon?” questioned a local resident. Others have voiced suspicions of substandard materials and negligence on the part of contractors and officials.
Critics argue that such incidents erode public trust and reduce development projects to mere publicity stunts. They demand transparency in public works and urge higher authorities to take swift action against those responsible for the shoddy construction.
