Shocking Video Shows Bulldozer Plunging 300 Metres Into Gorge in Shimla Amid Rainfall

A tragic bulldozer mishap in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, claimed the life of the operator after the vehicle slid down a hillside during intense monsoon rains, which have caused significant destruction across the region.

The accident took place while the bulldozer was engaged in road construction work in Shimla. The driver reportedly lost control of the machine, which then rolled down the steep slope.

The frightening moment was captured on camera by bystanders. In the clip, the JCB machine is seen slipping off the edge of National Highway 5 near Jabli, where it was working to clear a blocked road. It tumbled nearly 300 metres into a deep gorge after loose rocks fell from above.

Soon after, a man was spotted climbing down the rain-hit hill through the debris to reach the injured bulldozer operator. Despite being rescued and rushed to the hospital, the driver sadly succumbed to his injuries.

This incident is part of the broader havoc caused by relentless rainfall in the hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Numerous reports of flooding, landslides, and traffic disruptions on highways and major roads have emerged from various parts of the states.

According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), out of 179 total fatalities, 101 deaths were the result of weather-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and lightning strikes. The remaining 78 people lost their lives in road mishaps aggravated by dangerous weather and deteriorated road conditions.

The SDMA noted that between June 20 and August 2, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed extensive destruction of lives and infrastructure due to heavy monsoon activity.

As per the SDMA’s most recent status report, public services have been severely impacted, with 403 roads blocked, 411 power distribution transformers (DTRs) disrupted, and 196 water supply schemes rendered non-functional as of Friday evening.
