Show Cause Notice Issued to IndiGo Over Simulator Training Lapses Affecting 1,700 Pilots

India’s aviation regulator on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to IndiGo regarding alleged shortcomings in simulator training conducted for over 1,700 pilots.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) took this step after reviewing records and responses received from IndiGo last month, sources revealed. IndiGo confirmed that it is currently examining the notice.

“We acknowledge receipt of the show cause notice issued by the DGCA concerning simulator training for some of our pilots. We are in the process of reviewing it and will respond to the regulator within the prescribed timeline,” said an IndiGo spokesperson.

What Does the DGCA Notice State?

According to insiders, the DGCA discovered that Category C or critical airfield training for around 1,700 pilots, including commanders and first officers, was carried out using simulators that were not certified.

It was found that these simulators lacked qualification for training specific to certain airports such as Calicut, Leh, and Kathmandu. Airports like Calicut, which features a table-top runway, have additional operational requirements for flight training.
