Singapore Businesswoman Dies Day After Sharing Employee Dispute Online; Police Investigate ‘Unnatural Death’

Jane stated that the employee claimed to have fallen on an escalator while taking out trash. However, she suspected the fall was staged.

Jane Lee, the proprietor of Sumo Salad located in Holland Village, Singapore, passed away on July 19. Her death occurred just a day after she made a Facebook post describing a distressing situation involving one of her staff members. The Singapore Police Force is currently treating it as an “unnatural death” and has begun an inquiry. The specific cause of death has yet to be officially confirmed.

On July 18, Jane published two emotional Facebook updates where she conveyed feelings of frustration and betrayal. She alleged that an Indian employee, Sran Kiranjeet Kaur, had faked an accident to file a false injury claim for compensation. Jane noted that the employee only had two days remaining on her contract when the incident took place.

According to Jane, the worker said she slipped and fell on an escalator while disposing of trash. Jane, however, did not believe the incident was genuine. She mentioned that the employee was scheduled to leave work early but chose to stay late, hinting that the act may have been premeditated.

“I never thought someone could be so deceitful just for money,” Jane wrote in one of her posts. Her words revealed how emotionally impacted she was by the entire ordeal.

The following day, news of Jane’s sudden passing stunned members of Singapore’s entrepreneurial community and beyond. Authorities are continuing their probe to determine whether the circumstances surrounding her death are connected to the stress she detailed in her online statements.

This unfortunate episode has sparked renewed attention on workplace tensions, mental wellness, and the immense pressure often felt by small business owners—especially when dealing with legal challenges and employee issues.

The investigation is still underway.
