Slovak President Supports India’s Bid for Permanent Membership in UN Security Council

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has extended his full support to India’s longstanding demand for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The announcement came during a diplomatic meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, who is currently on an official visit to Slovakia. Both leaders engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between India and Slovakia, covering areas such as economy, science, education, and cultural exchange.

As a mark of cultural goodwill, President Murmu was presented with books featuring Slovak translations of ancient Indian philosophical literature. The gesture highlighted Slovakia’s respect and admiration for India’s rich spiritual and literary heritage, and marked a deepening of cultural ties between the two nations.

President Pellegrini praised India’s rising global stature and its contributions to peacekeeping, development, and international cooperation. He emphasized the need for global institutions like the United Nations to reflect modern geopolitical realities.
He stated:
“India plays a vital role in global peace and progress. Its inclusion as a permanent member of the Security Council is essential for balanced representation and fair decision-making in the UN system.”

This expression of support is seen as a major diplomatic boost for India, which has consistently argued that the current UNSC structure is outdated and needs reform to include emerging powers like itself.

The meeting between the two Presidents has added new momentum to India’s efforts to gain broader international backing for its UNSC bid, while also strengthening its ties with Slovakia on multiple fronts.
