As some people including pregnant women have been diagnosed with Zika virus in Maharashtra, the Central Health Department has advised the states to take appropriate precautionary measures.

Some people including pregnant women have been confirmed to be infected with the Zika virus in Maharashtra and Pune. The central health department has advised the state governments to conduct proper screening of pregnant women as it can affect the developing baby if pregnant women are infected.

The Union Health Ministry has asked the state governments to immediately depute surveillance officers to maintain hospital hygiene as the Zika virus is spread by Aedes mosquitoes that bite during the day.

Apart from this, the central government has instructed to maintain cleanliness in residential areas, workplaces, schools, construction sites and other areas by spraying disinfectants.
