Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K.Sivakumar said that Tamil Nadu should cooperate with Meghadatu project.
Tamil Nadu held an all-party meeting on the Cauvery water sharing issue. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar said in a press conference:-
Karnataka has been receiving good rains for the past few days. This has increased the water flow to the dams across the Cauvery River. 20 thousand cubic feet of water per second is released from Harangi. Rain is our source. I will ask Tamil Nadu.
That is, Karnataka will cooperate with Tamil Nadu to the best of its ability in the issue of Cauvery water sharing. We will provide as much water as we can to Tamil Nadu. But Tamil Nadu should allow us to retain our share of water.
To protect the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu, cooperation should be given to the Meghadatu project. This project will benefit Tamil Nadu more than Karnataka. The water collected in this dam will be supplied to Tamil Nadu. This will provide potable water to people from all walks of life including Kannadas, Tamils and Telugus in Bengaluru. If it rains continuously, we will release water to Tamil Nadu. It cannot be held here. This is what he said.
