Mahant Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, passed away yesterday due to ill health.

His body was taken in a procession across the city and his last rites were performed. Later, heavy stones were tied to his body in the Sarayu river under police protection and his body was immersed in water in the river.

It is noteworthy that he was a central figure in the Ayodhya Ram temple movement and remained influential in the community until his death.
