According to the recommendation of the 15th Finance Commission, 500 crore rupees will be allocated by the central government for the prevention of rains in Chennai.
In his written reply to this in the Lok Sabha,
He said that the 15th Finance Commission has recommended allocation of Rs 500 crore each from the National Disaster Relief Fund and Rs 250 crore each to the cities of Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune to carry out flood prevention works in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
Stating that the state government will also contribute 10 percent to the funds released from the National Disaster Relief Fund, Central Home Minister Nithyanand Roy said that the central government has allocated 561 crore 29 lakh rupees for the Chennai flood prevention work, of which 500 crore rupees will be released on behalf of the central government.
Minister Nithyanand Rai, responding to the demand regarding the granting of state status to Puducherry, said that considering its topography, administration and financial structure, the central government has decided that the current Central Territory status should continue.
