O. Panneerselvam said that immediate action should be taken to treat those suffering from non-corona diseases and those waiting for treatment in government hospitals.
AIADMK Co-ordinator and Deputy Leader of the Opposition O. Panneerselvam said in a statement that it was the duty of the state government to provide quality medical care to people in all parts of Tamil Nadu for all types of ailments, to provide high quality treatment in line with advancing technology in the medical field, thereby making the society healthier.
In this situation where the impact of corona has increased, the poor and common people suffering from non-corona diseases are facing great difficulties in getting treatment for those diseases in government hospitals. Over the past few months, as the number of people suffering from the deadly corona infection has increased, there have been reports that most of the beds for other patients in government hospitals have been changed for corona patients, creating a situation where other patients who are not affected by corona can wait a long time for surgery.
Large hospitals like Chennai, Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital and Stanley Medical College Hospital are also reported to have a similar situation. Although a separate campus has been set aside for corona sufferers, there are reports that only those injured in road accidents and pregnant women are being treated, and those suffering from various ailments, including heart disease and kidney damage, and those in need of dialysis treatment are not being admitted as inpatients.
According to health officials, this will take some time. It is learned that there are thousands of people in need of such medical assistance throughout Tamil Nadu. The victims are the poor and the common people. If this condition is prolonged, non-corona infections are more likely to increase mortality. Therefore, there is a widespread expectation among the general public that those suffering from other non-corona infections should be treated in government hospitals.
Therefore, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should pay special attention to this and urge the OBS to take immediate action to treat those suffering from non-corona diseases and those waiting for treatment in government hospitals.
