Train Derails in Texas, Possible Hazardous Materials Involved; No Injuries Reported
A Union Pacific Railroad train derailed in Palo Pinto County, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon, raising concerns over the possible presence of hazardous materials. The incident took place around 2:00 pm local time on a railroad bridge along Coalville Road, about two miles east of Gordon, ABC News reported.
Several freight and tanker cars were left damaged, scattered, and piled atop each other in the aftermath. While the exact contents of the affected wagons are yet to be confirmed, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of hazardous cargo being involved.
Union Pacific said no injuries have been reported. The company is coordinating with local officials and emergency responders to secure the area and ensure public safety.
The Palo Pinto County Emergency Services Department, in a Facebook post, urged residents to avoid the site, warning of a “potentially hazardous situation.” Fire crews are working with extreme caution, and the county has classified the incident as a HazMat (hazardous materials) case.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the derailment.
