Trump’s 25% Tariff on Indian Goods, Levies on Other Nations Come Into Force: ‘Billions Flowing Into US’
The first 25% duty on Indian products imposed by the United States has officially come into force. This is part of a two-phase tariff increase, with an additional 25% slated to be implemented in 21 days.

Donald Trump’s 25 per cent import duty on goods from India has formally been enforced.

Just moments before the tariffs came into effect, the US President posted on X, stating that with the tariffs now active, billions of dollars from countries that have “taken advantage of the United States” will begin flowing into the country.

He also said that the only thing that could halt America’s progress would be “a radical left court.”

“Reciprocal tariffs take effect at midnight tonight!” Trump wrote on his own social media platform, Truth Social.

“Billions of dollars, mostly from countries that have been taking advantage of the United States for many years while laughing all the way, will now start pouring into the USA,” he added.

“The only thing that can stop America’s greatness would be a radical left court that wants to see our nation fail,” the US President further said.

In another post, Trump stated, “It’s midnight!!! Billions of dollars in tariffs are now flowing into the United States of America.”

On Wednesday, the US President signed an executive order announcing an extra 25 per cent import duty, citing India’s continued procurement of Russian crude oil.

The fresh tariffs were imposed less than 14 hours before the first set of duties were to come into effect.

With this executive order, the total duty on Indian goods — except for a limited exemption list — will amount to 50 per cent.

While the first phase of the tariff came into force on August 7, the second set will come into effect after 21 days.

Shortly after Trump signed the executive order on Wednesday, New Delhi stated that Washington had “targeted” its oil imports from Russia and that it would “take all necessary steps” to safeguard its national interests.

Justifying India’s energy cooperation with Russia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the imports were driven by market considerations and guided by the overall objective of ensuring energy security for the country’s 1.4 billion citizens.

In an official statement, the MEA noted that many other nations were also engaging in similar oil procurement from Russia to protect their respective national interests, and hinted at its displeasure over India being singled out.

“We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable,” the MEA stated.
