‘Unprovoked, Violent, Abusive’: FIR Against Army Officer for Allegedly Assaulting Multiple SpiceJet Staff
The official police complaint lodged by SpiceJet mentions that the army officer “verbally abused and criminally intimidated in an aggressive and threatening manner.”
SpiceJet’s FIR against a senior army officer, who allegedly physically assaulted four of the airline’s ground staff, has described the incident as “unprovoked,” “violent,” and “abusive” in nature, and directed against “multiple civilian staff of SpiceJet.”
The FIR has been filed under sections 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), and 131 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to voluntarily causing hurt, unlawful restraint, criminal intimidation, and assault or use of criminal force.
The assault left the SpiceJet employees with a spinal fracture and injuries to the jaw. “The officer committed an unprovoked and violent attack against multiple civilian employees of SpiceJet Airlines,” the formal police complaint said. “The passenger then physically attacked multiple staff members, causing serious injuries.”
The complaint further mentioned that the officer “used abusive language and issued criminal threats in an aggressive and intimidating tone.” The FIR lists the victims as Govindrajan Swami, Mudasir Ashraf Khan, Nadeem Sofi, and Emaad Bhat.
SpiceJet confirmed that it has registered the FIR with local police and has initiated the process to include the officer on India’s no-fly list.
“SpiceJet has written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, informing them about the brutal attack on its staff and has requested suitable action against the passenger,” the airline said.
It also said it had handed over CCTV footage of the incident to the concerned authorities. “SpiceJet strongly condemns any form of violence against its employees and will pursue the matter to its full legal and regulatory conclusion,” it added.
What Happened at Srinagar Airport?
An earlier statement issued by SpiceJet stated that the army officer “severely assaulted four SpiceJet employees at the boarding gate of flight SG-386 from Srinagar to Delhi on July 26, 2025.”
An altercation reportedly broke out between the officer and airline staff after he was informed that his two cabin bags, weighing a total of 16 kg, exceeded the allowed cabin baggage limit of 7 kg.
SpiceJet said when staff “politely informed [him] about the excess baggage and requested him to pay the applicable charges,” he refused and forcibly entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding procedure. The airline termed this act “a clear breach of aviation security regulations.” He was later brought back by a CISF personnel.
What followed was a violent incident at the boarding area.
“Our staff suffered a spinal fracture and severe jaw injuries after being assaulted with punches, continuous kicks, and a queue barrier,” the airline said. “One SpiceJet employee collapsed unconscious on the floor, but the passenger continued to kick and hit the unconscious staff member.”
Another staff member who tried to help the injured colleague was also attacked. “One of our staffers started bleeding from the nose and mouth after receiving a strong kick on the jaw while trying to assist the fainted employee,” SpiceJet stated.
All four injured employees were immediately taken to a hospital and are currently receiving treatment for what the airline has called “serious injuries.”
