Uttarkashi Cloudburst: CM Dhami Reviews Rescue Operation, Over 190 Rescued So Far
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday convened a meeting with officials of the NDRF and ITBP at the camp office in Uttarkashi to assess the ongoing rescue operation in Dharali.
The Indian Army has launched a prompt and well-coordinated Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission after a destructive cloudburst occurred near Dharali, close to Harsil in Uttarakhand.
More than 190 people have been rescued from the Dharali region so far, following the devastating cloudburst that led to heavy flash floods and landslides in the area.
A large-scale rescue mission is currently underway in Dharali, with several agencies functioning in coordination, including the Army, NDRF, ITBP, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Uttarakhand Police, and the local administration.
CM Dhami Supervising the Situation
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday held discussions with officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at the Uttarkashi camp office to monitor the ongoing rescue work in Dharali.
Earlier in the day, in response to the flash floods and landslides in the Dharali region, CM Dhami visited the affected site and reviewed the relief and rescue operations.
As per a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), both central and state agencies are operating on a war footing to execute relief and evacuation efforts in the area.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the CMO mentioned that despite adverse weather, the Chief Minister reached the disaster site and met with the affected families. He also instructed officials to ensure timely distribution of relief materials and assistance.
PM Modi Interacts With CM Dhami
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CM Dhami on Wednesday to assess the ground situation. He assured all necessary help from the central government.
A message posted on X read:
“Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also had a phone conversation with Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami this morning to take updates on the natural calamity in the Dharali region and the ongoing relief and rescue operations.”
Relief Aid and Medical Support Provided
According to the CMO, to accelerate the relief efforts, essential food supplies and other aid were air-dropped in Dharali using two helicopters. The Chief Minister stated that the government’s main priority is to restore normalcy as soon as possible and make sure that help reaches every affected person.
“Following a request from the state government, the Centre has deployed two Chinook and two MI-17 helicopters from Chandigarh, Sarsawa, and Agra. These helicopters are also being utilised to transport heavy machinery to re-establish road connectivity.”
The state Health Department has kept beds ready at Doon Medical College, Coronation District Hospital, and AIIMS Rishikesh to provide treatment to the injured.
