Vice-Chancellors’ Conference – Official Announcement
A significant event in the field of higher education in Tamil Nadu and India, the Vice-Chancellors’ Conference, will be held on the 25th and 26th of this month. The conference will feature Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as a participant, as officially announced.
This conference will be an advisory meeting for vice-chancellors of universities. Over the past period, there has been an ongoing conflict between the Tamil Nadu Government and Governor R.N. Ravi regarding the appointment of vice-chancellors. In this context, the Tamil Nadu government had passed 10 legislative amendments in the state assembly to transfer the power to appoint vice-chancellors from the Governor to the state government. However, the Governor did not give approval for these amendments.
In response, the Tamil Nadu government filed a case in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, using its special powers, approved the 10 legislative amendments and issued an order. Subsequently, these 10 laws were published in the Official Gazette.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision, for the first time, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin held a meeting with the vice-chancellors and registrars, which sparked significant discussions in higher education circles. This was a major development, as usually, it is the Governor who organizes the annual advisory meeting with the vice-chancellors.
As a follow-up, the Vice-Chancellors’ Conference will be held in Uttiramerur on the 25th and 26th of this month. In this conference, Governor R.N. Ravi will preside over the event, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will also participate. Additionally, vice-chancellors of 48 central and state universities in Tamil Nadu, along with private university vice-chancellors and experts from various fields, will take part in the conference.
This Vice-Chancellors’ Conference, being chaired by Governor R.N. Ravi, is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of higher education in Tamil Nadu and across India, fostering new strategies and directions for the development of the academic sector.
