Voting will be held today (Saturday) at the world’s highest polling station in Himachal Pradesh. This polling station is set up for 62 voters.
The 7th and final phase of voting in the parliamentary elections will be held today (Saturday) in 57 constituencies. It includes 4 constituencies of Himachal Pradesh.
Mandi constituency is already getting attention across the country. Because famous actress Kangana Ranaut is fielded on behalf of BJP in this constituency. Vikramaditya Singh of Congress is contesting against him.
Similarly, having the highest polling booth in the world is another highlight of Mandi constituency.
Thus, the polling station set up in a small village called Dashigang at a height of 15,256 feet in the snowy Himalayas is considered to be the highest polling station in the world.
The polling station is set up for just 62 voters from 2 villages, Dashikang and neighboring village Gede. Tashikang village is located in a part of Spiti Valley, bordering China.
The people of the two villages are expressing their concern that despite fulfilling their democratic duty for a long time, their standard of living and basic facilities have not improved yet.
Especially for the people living in the desolate and rough terrain, essential facilities like water and roads are still lacking.
The region is a semi-arid region with very little or no rainfall per year. So they depend on snowfall and glaciers for drinking water.
But due to climate change, snowfall is decreasing in recent times. Thus, they are meeting their water needs only through small puddles caused by the melting of glaciers.
People there have said that their livelihood is very difficult due to lack of employment. Thus they depend on agriculture.
Peas are mostly grown in those areas. But they shed tears as its yield is insufficient to meet basic needs like food and children’s education.
The villagers who said that politicians do not come here often, the people are accusing that the leaders who come during the elections do not fulfill their promises later on.
However, they have said that they vote in every election with the hope that their standard of living will improve, and said that they are preparing to vote in this election as well.
Will their long dream come true at least in this election? That is everyone’s expectation.
