‘We Have BrahMos’: Asaduddin Owaisi Slams Shehbaz Sharif Over Indus Treaty Threat

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday strongly criticised Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his threats to India over the Indus Waters Treaty, asserting that such warnings will have no impact on India.

Speaking to reporters, the Hyderabad MP emphasised that India possesses the BrahMos missile and warned Pakistan to be cautious before making such statements.

“‘BrahMos hain hamare paas’ (We have the BrahMos missile). They made statements about being caught unaware when nine air bases were attacked. Such ridiculous statements should not be made. As a Prime Minister, you may lack dignity, but these threats will not affect us. Enough is enough,” Owaisi told PTI.

The remarks came after Sharif threatened India for putting the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Sharif had warned that any attempt to stop water flow into Pakistan would violate the treaty and would be met with a “decisive response.”

Addressing an event in Islamabad on Tuesday, Sharif said, “I want to tell the enemy today that if you threaten to hold our water, keep this in mind—you cannot snatch even one drop of Pakistan.” He added, “If India tries, you will again be taught a lesson that will leave you holding your ears.”

Earlier, former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari described the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as an attack on the Indus Valley Civilisation, warning that Pakistan would not back down if pushed toward war.

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir also reportedly stated that Islamabad would destroy any dam if India cut off the water flow. “We will wait for India to build a dam, and when they do, we will destroy it,” Dawn quoted him as saying. He further warned, “The Indus River is not India’s family property. We have no shortage of resources to counter Indian designs to stop the river.”

During a visit to the US, Munir warned that Pakistan could trigger a nuclear conflict and potentially take “almost half of the world” down if faced with an existential threat in a future conflict with India.

Following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, India downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, reducing Islamabad Mission strength, and expelling military attaches. Operation Sindoor saw India retaliate against terror camps in Pakistan, striking several air bases, crippling Islamabad Army capabilities, and successfully repelling missile and drone attacks.
