Widow of Slain Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar Reportedly Remarries in Turkey: Report

Samar Muhammad Abu Zamar, the widow of Hamas figure Yahya Sinwar, is said to have remarried in Turkey after escaping Gaza using falsified documents, allegedly arranged by senior Hamas leader Fathi Hammad.

As per a report from Israeli news agency Ynet, Samar Muhammad Abu Zamar, who was married to the deceased Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, has reportedly entered into a new marriage in Turkey.

The report stated that Abu Zamar fled the conflict-stricken Gaza Strip along with her children, aided by forged identification papers and extensive logistical assistance.

Zamar, who holds a master’s qualification in theology from the Islamic University of Gaza, had married Sinwar in 2011.

According to the Ynet account, she crossed into Egypt through the Rafah crossing using a counterfeit passport that originally belonged to another woman from Gaza. The process of moving her out of the blockaded region reportedly involved extensive coordination and large sums of money—resources typically inaccessible to ordinary Gaza citizens.

Her new marriage in Turkey, following Yahya Sinwar’s death in October 2024, was reportedly arranged by prominent Hamas figure Fathi Hammad. He is noted for organizing the evacuation of Hamas officials’ families from combat zones.

The report further claimed that during the early phases of the Israel-Gaza hostilities, the Palestinian militant organization set up a secretive network to smuggle the families of high-level operatives using fake documentation and fabricated medical records.

It was also reported that Najwa, the widow of Sinwar’s brother Mohammed—who briefly took over leadership of the Iran-backed group after Yahya Sinwar’s death—also exited Gaza through this same escape route. Israeli intelligence sources verified that both women departed the region via the Rafah crossing before their husbands were killed.

Yahya Sinwar was eliminated by Israeli forces on October 16, 2024, during an operation in Rafah’s Tal al-Sultan area. A drone reportedly located him hiding in a damaged building. Video footage later revealed him wounded and attempting to fight off the drone with a stick before being fatally shot.

The Gaza conflict has now reached its 21st month. The Gaza Health Ministry reports that more than 59,000 Palestinians have died to date. UN organizations have issued warnings about famine-level conditions, with humanitarian access severely limited since March 2. At least 111 people, including babies, have reportedly perished from starvation, while nearly 100,000 women and children suffer from extreme acute malnutrition.

A UN-supported analysis warns that nearly the entire population of Gaza—2.1 million people—is grappling with food insecurity, with about 470,000 enduring extreme, life-threatening hunger.
