‘Will Nominate for Nobel Peace If…’: Hillary Clinton’s Unusual Endorsement for Trump

Former US First Lady Hillary Clinton has said she would nominate President Donald Trump — her rival in the 2016 Presidential election — for the Nobel Peace Prize if he can bring a lasting end to the war in Ukraine.

Speaking on Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov’s Raging Moderates podcast, Clinton stated that she would willingly nominate Trump if he manages to end the war without forcing Ukraine to concede any territory to Russia.

“Honestly, if he could bring about the end to this terrible war… if he could end it without putting Ukraine in a position where it had to give up its territory to the aggressor… could really stand up to Putin, something we haven’t seen, but maybe this is the opportunity…,” she said, according to the New York Post.

Clinton added that the upcoming Alaska summit could be an opportunity for Trump to make it clear to Putin “that there must be a ceasefire, there will be no exchange of territory between Russia and Ukraine.”

“If President Trump were the architect of that, I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize. My goal here is to prevent capitulation to Putin,” she said.

Clinton’s unusual endorsement for Trump came ahead of his scheduled meeting with Putin in Alaska on Friday (local time) to discuss the future of conflict-torn Ukraine.

Trump has described the meeting as a step toward ending Russia’s war in Ukraine, hinting that a territorial swap could be part of a deal. Ahead of the high-stakes talks, he said his main objective is to bring Putin to the negotiating table — not to strike a deal on behalf of Ukraine. He also added that the meeting could be over in a few minutes if Putin does not compromise, while expressing confidence that Russia and Ukraine would eventually make peace.

The summit represents a crucial moment in the United States’ ongoing efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine. Putin, while praising Trump’s mediation attempts, has shown no signs of compromise as Moscow continues its military campaign in Ukraine, challenging the US President’s efforts.
