Woman killed in fireworks factory explosion

A woman died and 6 others were injured in a firecracker factory explosion near Virudhunagar.

A firecracker factory owned by Mohanraj was operating in Kovilpuli Kuthi near Virudhunagar. A loud explosion occurred here and the fire broke out. Even though the fire brigade arrived on information, they were unable to put out the fire for half an hour as the firecrackers continued to explode.

Later, the fire was completely put out after an hour of struggle. More than 10 rooms were completely damaged in the explosion. While a woman named Ramalakshmi died with burns, 6 people, including a man, were rescued with injuries and admitted to the hospital.

While the police have arrested foreman Selvakumar in connection with the incident, they are searching for the factory owner who is absconding.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that a compensation of Rs 4 lakh will be given to the family of the person who died in the firecracker accident. Similarly, it has been announced that Rs 2 lakh each will be provided as compensation to those seriously injured and Rs 50,000 each to those with minor injuries.
